Headline : Tern-ted Love! Love birds share a meal before 'doing the deed'
Caption : The Caspian Tern has a unique mating ritual. The male presents the female with a fish. She then decides if she wants to take it or not. If taken, the male proceeds to mate with the female. After finishing, many times the male will sit on the females back for around 5 minutes and enjoy his success.
These images, taken by wildlife photographer Bob Jensen, were taken on Whidbey Island in Washington State near Seattle, U.S.. The photographer was in a floating blind so he could sit nearby the birds, (about 10 meters), and capture the behavior without the birds knowing.
