AMERICAN BEAUTY SCOOPS GOLDEN GLOBES
Box office smash AMERICAN BEAUTY is looking a sure thing for Oscar glory - scooping the best drama, screenplay and director awards at last night's (23JAN00) Golden Globe Awards. But although the DREAMWORKS drama was the major movie winner at the ceremony held at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton Hotel, stars KEVIN SPACEY and ANNETTE BENING lost out in the best actor and actress categories to DENZEL WASHINGTON and British newcomer JANET McTEER respectively. HBO drama THE SOPRANOS was the clear winner in the television categories, running away with the best actress, best actor and best TV drama awards. A composed BARBRA STREISAND received the special CECIL B DEMILLE award for outstanding contribution, thanking her husband JAMES BROLIN for keeping her passion alive and not minding the extra pounds (kilos) she's piled on since the early days.
